I've noticed on leaflets I've seen round my area, operators which accept a day ticket or travel pass (Bus and Rail ticket) are listed in the leaflet or PDF document, there was a time when there was one of these travel pass tickets a few years back which always stated 'valid on most buses', and it was impossible to actually find out which of the 'most buses' would accept it!

Just interested to know is any day riders in other areas which don't list which buses you can actually use and difficult to find out?

West Yorkshire ticket terms are here:

https://ticketsandpasses.wymetro.co...r_and_Weekender_general_terms_and_conditions/

I know they're not valid, even within West Yorkshire on the 74/74A/74B from Ilkley to North Yorkshire - I don't know if there's any other routes not mentioned.

My take on 'most buses' would be it was never the one you wanted to travel on - somebody's Law, I'm sure:lol:

There's the Stagecoach Hull X62 where the West Yorkshire Day Rover isn't valid on and the non West Yorkshire bits of the Dalesbus service.

I know that the Wiltshire Day Rover isn't valid on the Stonehenge Tour and one or two other services.

Indeed however the Wilts Day Rover leaflet/web version does mention what it is/isn't valid on though.

What I'm talking about is tickets that state it is only valid on most buses but doesn't actually state which operators accept the ticket.

busaholic - very true! Must say if I ever started my own bus company I'd be tempted to call it 'most buses'

As in Plusbus tickets? If so, then using Trowbridge as an example I'd hazard that the things would be valid on First WoE and Faresaver but excluding Frome Minibuses and Somerbus (the latter who run a Thursday shopper to the town).

Round my way in Huddersfield, I would hazard a guess that it would be First WY, Arriva and Stotts but not Yorkshire Tiger, Tiger Blue, SPCT, Longstaffs and TLC.

Specifically on Plusbus, the Plusbus website does list the operators who accept each town's Plusbus ticket. There is at least one instance in which its list is incorrect, but that's another matter.

Trowbridge doesn't have a Plusbus, but Huddersfield's is accepted by all operators. It's well worth having actually, because you're not restricted to Huddersfield proper or even to Kirklees, but can use it on any bus in West Yorkshire. (Except for the fairly few services in Leeds which run after midnight.)

We're not talking about hazarding a guess - we're talking about looking at the published terms and still not being able to tell which operators are excluded.

I have certainly seen an unqualified "most buses" on leaflets in the past but I gave up collecting transport ephemera in my teens so I don't have examples to hand.

The other one is "some coaches" for ENCTS passes. I have seen nothing official about acceptance on the Oxford Tube between Oxford and Lewknor but friends in Oxfordshire use their passes on it regularly.

Deerfold - it's interesting that link you posted, I like their wording 'virtually all buses' so all, but some secret ones you cant use it on, like the one you mention. Do they supply a coverage map?

No. They do do pretty good maps, but these include all services including the 74 and X62.

The only exclusions mentioned in that link are: 'Exceptions are late night services, football or concert specials, long distance coaches, excursions, tours, contract, chartered or other privately hired bus or train services.' Therefore it looks that it's valid on every other West Yorkshire service, including those you mention, as long as they have stops within the West Yorkshire boundary.

The Ride Cornwall ticket is advertised as valid on all train services and most buses in Cornwall. However, it seems that it is only valid on First Kernow and Plymouth City Bus. Whilst I agree that these two companies do operate most of the bus services in Cornwall, I found the Ride Cornwall ticket a bit limiting when I wanted to visit a few of the more remote places where the services were operated by smaller local companies which do not accept the ticket.

I believe that Deerfold is mentioning these maps:

http://wymetro.com/BusTravel/mapsandguides/

Back to the OP I do believe that the Derbyshire Wayfarer can come under this, to an extent, as it is accepted on most buses apart from those operated by High Peak Monday to Friday but it is stated in the leaflet.

I could be wrong but the now withdrawn service 150 which use to run between Sheffield and Sherwood Forest visitor centre didn't accept the Wayfarer whatsoever even though the route ran through part of Derbyshire and going back eight years ago the Metro Day Rover (all types) wasn't accepted on the Stagecoach operated 61A even if you were going as far as Holmfirth or even Holme. This somewhat changed up and until three years back when you could use a Metro Day Rover all the way to Glossop on the 951, wasn't mentioned in no leaflet that it could be done.

I've probably got the wrong end of the stick, but this is what I know.

According to the timetable "Local passengers are not carried on service 74 or 74A between Ilkley and Addingham in either direction". What would happen if you travelled to/from the stretch of the B6160 between Addingham and the North Yorkshire border, I don't know. However I would think very few passengers do, and the chances of them having a Metro ticket is vanishingly small.
