Day spotting in London

Hi everybody,

I will soon be travelling down to London for the day with my son to do some loco spotting. We've more or less covered trains in and out of Kings Cross, Euston and St Pancras and would like suggestions on the best locations to go within Zone 1 + 2 using the travelcard.
We will have approx 5 hrs in the capital and obviously want to get the most out of the time available.
By the way we will be travelling into and out of Kings Cross so any possible route from there would be much appreciated.

Liverpool St for class 90s would be a good bet for locos. Met line eastbound from Kings Cross LUL. You could also go out to Stratford from the Street, where you will get the freight coming off the NLL.
Kensington Olympia would be good for a lot of the cross capital freight. Either Circle line to High St for District, or Victoria to Victoria, BR to Clapham Jn, BR to Kenny O.
