Day out to sheerness

As time and money permit, I've decided when I get rained off, to treat myself to some days out on new lines. I'm also getting good use out of my Network card.

Today, I ventured from Watford to Sheerness on Sea via St Pancras. I'd never ridden on a 395 so that was a first. New lines Ebbsfleet Int to Strood and Sittingborne to Sheerness.

I really enjoyed South Eastern's high speed train. Sheerness, well what can I say, I survived half an hour there. Broke my journey on the way back at Rochester. The new Rochester station being high up, felt very exposed to the winds.

I still need to do the new Rochester station, worth remembering for my planned HS1 spin in a couple of weeks. I love the 395s on AC power, but generally speaking they're great trains full stop.

It's good to get out and go somewhere new. I did Sheerness in 2015 and stayed for about half an hour too, enough time for a pint in Wetherspoons.
Your right about the new Rochester station mate, it was very windy up on the platforms when I was there last year.

I used a speedometer on my phone when I went to Canterbury on HS1 on a 395. I got a reading of 223 km/h, to a max AC speed of 225. Seeing another go past the windows it looked like it was just the front and the back coming past (if both at 225 km/h passing speed 450 km/h)
