Which he got on at Exeter after missing it at Paddington so was helicoptered down to meet the train. :roll:
Nice to see him being environmentally friendly and not costing the taxpayer any more than necessary, I mean, we are all in it together arent we!

Incidentally, while he was having the photo op at Dawlish station, 2C45 was sat at Langstone Rock waiting for the HST (which was stopped specially at Dawlish for DC) to clear the extended section. Nice to know that a photo op is more important than running a train service!

I was pleased to see the Prime Minister at Dawlish, on site to congratulate,Network Rail/Rail supply Companies and staff on a great job.

It was good to see the orange army getting the recognition they deserved but some of it was rather cringeworthy such as handing out sticks of Network rail rock at Paddington which I thought was a bit much, of course the FGW staff at the West depots got naff all!

Living in Wrexham in North Wales , I perhaps agree with your remarks on Paddington Rock, here we have Babcock Rail Rock. Just thought Network Rail manage Paddington, but not West Country Stations, were there balloons as well at Paddington.

It was done for media coverage I'm sure. Staff are not media so perhaps don't count as much in that respect.

I'd hope staff get internal recognition for their work, if not external too.

This was implemented fairly quickly. Perhaps this work can be used as a best practice case for other parts of the country where network rail do work. Of course it helped that they didn't have to build any temporary roads.

pity some of this could not apply to the line between Brockenhurst and Sway where the bridge over the B3055 was closed to road traffic in December 2013 and estimated that the work would take 2 - 3 months then announced this work would now take 7 months

The Night Riviera is running tonight for the first time in about 8 weeks, I was in Penzance so got a few pictures of it as the stock arrived into Penzance platform 1.

Will there be many people on the night Riviera tonight I wonder? Must have been awkward during the closure for people who might take the sleeper service to London or Cornwall normally.

When helicopter flights still went to the Isle of Scilly, I remember taking the sleeper train because that was the only connecting service, short of staying the night in Penzance.

Wow what a great photo and how smart the train looks! Long Rock have done a great job - just wish we could be confident that Worst Late Western top management were as clued...

Great to see the line back up and running in a relatively short space of time, given the extent of the damage. When I first saw pictures of the damage, I thought it would be 3-4 months before the line was back in use again and did not for one minute believe Network Rail when they said 6 weeks initially. NR have done a cracking job in getting the line reinstated. On a slightly cynical note, I wonder how much the fares will rise in the South West next January to pay for it all....!?

It does look smart, the staff I came into contact with at Penzance were all very polite and acknowledged me. There were 4 other people taking photos at the same time as me.

I took about 15 photos adjusting shutter speed to try and get a good photo, some are too bright, some came out too dark but I was happy with this photo.
If it had arrive 15 minutes earlier into the station it was still light.

8 weeks it's taken, as they have been making a thing about 56 days on the local radio today.

Just seen David Cameron talk to the staff and congratulate them in a BBC news report. I think that's great. They deserve that.

The BBC and no doubt other broadcasters were even able to ask David about MPs expensies, thus enabling them to generate two news stories from the one event, which I'm sure they were pleased about too.

NR haven't taken over anywhere that far west but they do manage Bristol Temple Meads and Reading.

Shame the Vintage Trains charter to Paignton with D1015 was postponed. It would have been the icing on the cake for what has been an excellent promotion for Dawlish.
