David Cameron samples GA 153 !

This afternoon Mr Cameron sampled the delights of GA travel on a single unrefurbished 153, the 1457 from Lowestoft to Norwich ! Bet this was an eye opener for him not to mention a surprise for the other pax. He was certainly in it together today.

Would've gone for a table seat probably!! I'm sure he was surprised by having eye level barely above the bottom window frame. Then again you can experience that towards the front of any modern bus!

Mind you, did he manage to see out of the windows? Last 153 I had out there had so much dirt caked onto the windows it would have made contravision seem clear!

I bet it wasn't as full as Norwich Lowestoft I wanted to catch in the summer which was totally rammed full 15 min's before departure

I'm certainly no fan of "Dave", but in fairness, at least he has been mingling with the common people on a "Dogbox" - he'd probably have had less criticism if he'd sat in a chauffeur driven limo

and not much more on the LHCs to London iether even if his ticket was FC Due to the MK3s being, through the faults of many, including his Government the worst on the network!↲
That said, grotty MK3s or not he was probs still more cumfy than if a unrefreshed 321 had turned up with Ginger onboard delivering a surman on how bad GA are throughout the trip! ↲

In my experience as a general observation I tend to think unless they are travelling on a well made main road many of the almost brand new double deckers seem to rattle about inside just as badly as the tired old ones you see on the lesser routes

At wrisk of going further off topic, I agree with you - theres Olimpians still running around with less ratly bits. Personally I think it should be a rule that all poloticians use buses and trains for all travel.

very much doubt it was the unrefurbed one as that was the one that got marooned at Lowestoft when it flooded and is out of traffic for repairs

When Cameron visited Northern's Newton Heath depot he was shown on the TV alighting a Pendolino and then boarding a 156 (refreshed ex-FNW unit) on the adjacent platform to take him to Newton Heath. He went straight for a table seat on the 156.

You mean they laid-on a special service to take him from either Stockport or Manchester Piccadilly to Newton Heath?
Why couldn't he have walked across Manchester or used the tram like the rest of us?

b) This visit was being recorded by the media, so using a table seat meant that the press could interview/photograph him more easily than if in an "airline" seat.

When a reporter for The Politics Show North West was shown travelling on a train the train was a Merseytravel Pacer and the camera operator managed OK, probably the low back seats helped. While most people do make for a table seat if there are seats available, a lot of people making a very short journey stay near the doors rather than making their way to the middle of the carriage. If Cameron wanted to do like most people do then shouldn't he have been made to wait for the connecting service and picked up a Metro paper to read.
