DART+ Coastal North Railway Order Application
Introduction
Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) has applied to An Bord Pleanála for approval of a Railway Order for the DART+ Coastal North project. Subject to approval, the Railway Order will authorise CIÉ to carry out railway works and all works necessary to enable the construction, operation, maintenance and improvement of the railway between Dublin City Centre and Drogheda MacBride Station, including the Howth Branch. This rail improvement project will provide an extension of the existing electrified rail network from Malahide to Drogheda MacBride stations and will provide the infrastructure to facilitate an increase to the rail capacity on the Northern Line.

There's a lot of very useful detail here, all within various PDFs.
Good to see Portals being used as well!

While I am 100% behind electrifying to Drogheda, the trains ordered are completely unfit for purpose.
The mock up was supposed to go on display in Connolly but hasn't happened yet. The backlash from regular users of the line is going to be something else.

What's the issue with them? They look like very standard commuter trains to me

Does anyone know what the service will be like after electrification? Will there be express DARTs to Droghera?

They don't have tables, toilets, luggage racks etc.
If you get on any current train from Drogheda presently, 80% of the passengers are doing some sort of work on the train into Dublin. Some get paid to travel in as they can pop the laptop on the table.
Toilets are going to be the big one.
A one hour + journey on a train with no toilets and no toilets at any station either.
An electric unit with the layout of a 29 set would have been better.

They'll probably be far better than the 29000s given how noisy and uncomfortable those are, but definitely a downgrade on the ICRs.

I suppose Drogheda passengers will use the Enterprise more when it goes hourly in October anyway

The 29k fleet is still very reliable and effective at moving large numbers of people across the Dublin commuter network.

anyone know what the future of the 29000s is? Withdrawn, realocated to new services?

Reallocated. Plenty of life left in them.

A bit of an aside, but something like the 29000 sets would have been ideal for Scotland. A bit like class 170s with body end doors.

Hold on, I’m confusing them with the 22000 units.

The 29000 are bullet proof. Yes the interior is getting worn and being replaced (LOL), but they work 99% of the time. Delays are usually CAWS issues not mechanical issues.
