There on the 28th December returning the same day. To arrive around between 12-1 if possible and returning approximately 6pm. Full price tickets as no railcard:cry: Any advice on the cheapest options please? :p

If you want Advance fares, try splitting at Manchester (TPE offer cheap fares along the route from Newcastle & York to Manchester).

For walk-on travel avoiding TPE, then simply split at York. A York-Blackburn "Route Burnley" CDR is £18.30 (Valid after 0930).

Are you doing a lot of other travel over the Christmas period? If so a North Country Rover is worth considering, as you'd recoup nearly half the cost on this journey alone.

wellllll.....Middlesbrough to Carlisle via Darlington and Blackburn is bookable on EC....£22.80

I have used it once that way round, the XC guard was the only one who checked it, he did mention in passing that it wasn't the most direct route but was quite jolly about it.
