Would enabling Night Shift help your eithers at all? The Inverted Colours option under Accessibility settings might help you otherwise

If you want "Dark Mode", just view the forum in Incognito Mode from your browser. Can't see why it would matter, none of us on the forum use real names anyway.

I don't think that's what the OP means by 'Dark Mode', unless I'm the one misunderstanding

I was going to say the same thing - I think the OP means "dark mode" in the sense that the site would go from looking like this:

Ah, in that case, I'd use it. much kinder to eyes.
It seems to be getting more and more popular. I've got YouTube set to dark mode, and my phone's got a standard dark mode setting for all apps where it's applicable.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
+1 for the dark mode suggestion, there are dark modes available for Xenforo but as ever I would defer to forum admin. Maybe worth suggesting via official channels.

I’ve never had that issue.
I did have this issue but resolved it having white mode in the day and dark mode plus night shift on at night. It automatically changes at some point in the evening

I've recently switched to Firefox on both phone and Mac and use the "Dark Reader" add-on which automatically makes every website into dark mode. It doesn't always get it quite right but it works well enough and you can adjust it slightly.

I’d like to suggest the addition of a black/grey-based theme to the forums.
Indeed, as these dark modes have become popular on lots of mobile and computer applications, I was wondering what forum members and staff would think of having one here. It would make reading and browsing RailUK much easier on the eyes and more comfortable.

It’s only a suggestion, what do you guys think ?

Of the apps/sites I use most often RailUk is the only one that doesn't have dark mode. Which is a bit annoying.

Already been suggested. As I understand the situation from those in the know here a degree of bespoke work would be needed to implement a dark mode. The existing customisation on this site means it's not just a case of flipping on a template.

Exactly this unfortunately - we’d effectively need to get an entirely separate theme designed which takes time. It’s definitely something we’d like to investigate - but it’s not something we’re realistically going to be able to roll out in the immediate future.

Given it would be an option, i‘d like to know the reason some have voted no.

Since I have no interest whatsoever in 'dark mode' NO is a sensible choice for me, whether an option or not.

Why not just select "indifferent"?

Yes, if it's implemented as a custom theme that a user can select (and deselect) at their leisure than the only possible reason to choose "no" is if you have a strong belief that it's not worth the effort to implement. I wouldn't use it myself but it doesn't trouble me in the slightest that other people might choose to.

I am indifferent, I think black on white like a newspaper is easiest to read. Besides, I am colorblind.

Could someone perhaps post a screenshot from another forum to give us an idea how it might look?

Here is the Wikipedia app in dark mode.
