Damage to Arbroath level crossing gates

There's no evidence of a red light jump here. So it's not clear how the gates were damaged. Note also they're not standard size. So it remains unclear how long the crossing will be closed. Rail services are not affected.

More than likely the gates were raised and the vehicle impacted the barrier mechanism, hence why the gates are now closed and the matter is the subject of a police report

the article says "The level crossing gates were struck by a vehicle which failed to stop and that is a matter which is now in the hands of the police"

so that suggests the barrier came down on a car, a car hit them while they were down, or does it suggest hit and run!

The way I read it is that a vehicle struck the barriers (in an open position), then left the scene
After an accident you MUST stop or report it to the police

The article only advises that the barriers were struck, and the vehicle failed to stop; no mention that the vehicle passed a stop sign or that the warning signs were active

:roll: Presumably Network Rail would prefer if this crossing didn't have to be fixed and could be closed. As well as the footbridge adjacent to the level crossing, aren't there nearby road over-bridges in Arbroath, just to the North and just to the South of the spot in question.

I think they tried to close it years ago claiming they were faulty.

There is road-over bridge to the north. To the south it's a slightly longer diversion, I'd imagine the crossing is used more frequently as there is a Morrissons and a Tesco on either side of it now.
