Dalston Junction to Rectory Road is roughly one mile. So I propose a tunnel to connect the two. London Overground run both lines. Trains from Clapham Junction and New Cross which terminate at Dalston Junction would then extend north to Enfield Town and Cheshunt to give a tube like frequency on the Southbury lines. With Shoreditch High St a viable alternative for the City, some services into Liverpool St might be removed to allow more trains on other lines. New AC/DC trains will be needed, but not a major barrier. One mile of tunnel creates a significantly improved cross London route with out the mega costs of a Crossrail 2 type scheme.
Now what have I failed to allow for with my crayoning? And are there any other places in London where a mile of tunnel would be as good or better?
