A friend alerted me to this earlier. It seems a water main has burst right next to the station on the Manchester bound side, washing debris on to the track. Not sure jiw long this will take to clear up but it looks fairly substantial!

Road itself won't be open for a few days. Also the line will be back open tomorrow (17/01) with a ESR in place on the Up Atherton on approach to Daisy Hill until after the platform.

I noticed the diversions this morning (it seemed a bit too quiet), I'm just happy I've got the day off so I don't have to use the bus.
It's gone from expected to be fixed at 15:00, to "the end of the day" now to 6am on Saturday. I hope it doesn't get further delayed.
It's a shame how there's only ticket acceptance on the V1, V2 and 607. Plenty of other routes (132 for Wigan-Atherton, 582 and 583 for in Atherton, 20 for Walkden, 29/36/37/38/66 for Moorside, 21/22/66 for Swinton) should have also been included.
While the effort to provude rail replacements is appreciated, they're only 1 per hour and much slower (and more expencive) than public service buses.
It's a stark difference to when something goes wrong on the Metrolink and a list of 10 bus routes get acceptance within minutes.

To be honest, and without sounded negative - it will take some doing to open the line at 6am tomorrow.
I was expecting 6M16 Wilton - Knowsley bins to be diverted via Chat Moss because of this but it was routed through Salford Crescent (in error?). It ended up being put inside at Brindle Heath as i suspect the drivers wont sign the route through Bolton. The train has just reversed and gone back through Man Vic then Denton and Stockport so must be going via CLC and Warrington.

It probably will, however, as it is not a landslip with stability concerns, removing the material becomes a much quicker job. And I suspect they will live with the spoiled ballast more than they would at say Shap.

Not surpised really.
As long as it's open by Monday so I can get to work!
If they start turning trains at Walkden I'll definitely try to make my way over there to use that crossover.
Looks like traffic in Wigan has become horrible.
All buses running really late (including rail replacements).

...and the Wigan traffic is because of the M6 having been closed all day.

First two trains of day diverted but trains have been serving Daisy Hill all day otherwise.
Could the railway be closed again while they fix any of the damage caused? I know that they've been investigating the Void and what's caused it and looking at pictures the slope from the bridge to the platform will need looking at at some point.
