In the photographer's words, sort of, he was maybe asleep or he was maybe blinking, he wasn't definitely asleep and he wasn't definitely blinking. Meanwhile in a tenuously related story, there was a fatal rail crash in 1951 that can be attributed neither to either sleeping nor blinking. Maybe definitely.

When they even publish a story with a headline that accepts it might be a non-story, that shows how desperate they are!

I thought the story was that they were sat at a red? As far as I'm aware no one should be in the back cab of an HST as the fire extinguishers trigger automatically and you don't want to be in there if they do.

If they'd really wanted to make a relevant point they should have referred to the Bourne End (WCML) rail accident (1945) as that one probably WAS caused by a sleeping driver (on duty every day for a fortnight and 12 hours that day, didn't slow from full speed when he should have to be switched to the slow lines)

Not quite true. Us mere mortals can't, but Travelling Riding Inspectors (travelling fitters) can and frequently do. They disengage the automatic system (either that or they are considered expendible!)
