Daily Data (Usage and Delay) By Location

Hello,

I am new here so apologies if I am breaking any convensions but - I am a research student doing research on the effect of weather on rail usage and delay and I am after daily local (by station or town or city) train delay and usage data. I have had a look at the ORR website and can only find quarterly statistics. Can anyone please suggest where I can get daily delay data by location if they know one?

Realtime trains can let you see all trains at a given location within the last week https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/
Recent train times can give you delay figures for services between two stations over a much longer period. https://www.recenttraintimes.co.uk/

Neither tell you reasons why, and I'm not aware of how to get access to the delay attribution data.

There is On Time Trains that does show a reason for delays or cancellations. https://www.ontimetrains.co.uk/

There is the Historic Service Performance database which has an API and can be access via the Network Rail open data feeds login.
The open data wiki will also be helpful if you can get access.

This site has an archive of Darwin messages which can be used to obtain both delay lengths by station and delay reason codes programmatically. Will require a significant amount of work but it will be the most accurate way of obtaining this data as Darwin is meant to be the "single source of truth" on the railway - beware that there are usually ~2 million messages a day sent through Darwin so quite a bit to process depending on the scope of your research, and this data does come with some attribution requirements ("Brand Guidelines and Logos").

Daily station counts are not available as many stations do not have barriers - station usage stats published by ORR are estimations. However, some operators do publish daily passenger counts for their trains on Rail Data Markerplace (RDM) which could be of some use.
