Dagenham East to Waterloo

Hi, don't know if this is the right section (or even the right website), apologies if not.

Taking advantage of South West Trains' winter sale and going to Dagenham on Saturday 22nd February to watch the football (splitting at Honiton from Plymouth).

Last train back from Waterloo to Plymouth on that day leaves at 1820 - game's a 3pm kick-off, so it'll finish at some point between 4:45-5. Dagenham East tube station is practically right next to the ground, about five minute's walk. Would that be leaving it enough time to get between the two stations by tube?

Be aware that you cannot interchange between the District and Northern/Bakerloo lines at Embankment due to refurbishment works.

It would be easier therefore (and faster) to interchange at West Ham then take the JLE to Waterloo.

Welcome to the forum. The journey planner on the Transport for London (TfL) website suggests that there will be trains roughly every 5 minutes and that the journey time will be 42 minutes changing at West Ham onto the Jubilee line. So depending on how many people are trying to get into Dagenham East station at that time, it should be possible but tight.

Done that journey loads of times. Cutting it a bit tight, but it *should* be feasible. I'd say the Daggers' ground is closer to a 10 min walk from the tube than 5, but I guess you'll see that on the way there...

Yes, I think you are best giving yourself at least 10 minutes to get back to Dagenham East from Victoria Road, bearing in mind the slow moving traffic (humans) after the match.

Luckily there is no engineering work on either the District or the Jubilee Lines. Assuming that everything runs on time, there is a train that leaves Dagenham East at 1713, which you should catch comfortably. It gets to West Ham at 1732. There should be a Jubilee Line train at 1738, which gets to Waterloo at 1755. District Line trains are every 5 minutes and Jubilee Line 5 trains every 15 minutes in an irregular pattern from West Ham. So I think you should be fine provided that there are no delays.

This is much quicker than walking from Embankment, which I do not recommend.

Thanks everyone, if I don't get it, it wouldn't be a disaster as it would just be a bus back from Exeter, but that's not something I'd rather do! Might leave the match early if there's a lot of injury time though, don't want to put it in too much doubt but I'd like to make sure I get to Waterloo in time. Thanks for the help!

It's not the end of the world if you miss it, there is a train an hour later with a connection to Plymouth. Ok, sure, it's an RRB, but at least thats better than wandering the streets of Exeter looking for a service bus.
