Daftest comment from a bus company

I've seen many daft comments from bus companies.

The latest is on this map from the usually-excellent trentbarton:

The key states that for the Red Arrow stops "You can only get on & off at these stops" leading me to wonder what else people do at bus stops.

Of course what is meant is that these are the only stops the Red Arrow serves.

Akin to "milk - allergy advice contains milk", etc. etc!

I could tell you a brilliant comment from Matalan, that a friend of mine encountered a few years ago. He bought a pair of jeans, and tried them on, fine at the shop. Got home, decided to wear them to the pub, was putting them on, and RIIIP!

Took them back, and the sales assistant said they tore because "they had been taken on and off."

If anyone has any other ideas as to how you're supposed to get in and out of them, please let me know.

Mind you, Moffat and Williamson had a superb comment a few years ago in their route 5, Rimbleton - Markinch timetable. Now, passengers are looking out for a route 5, and the timetable stated "The bus will have either 'Rimbleton 5 or Markinch 5 or Glenrothes 5' on the front. The bus will not display anything else" Yes M&W, as if passengers are expecting it to read "Route 206 going where you want".

I always found the notices on the front upstairs bulkheads of Arriva's RMs intriguing... "Press bell and remain seated until bus stops"... seeing as though RMs only had one bell at the top of the stairs it makes you wonder how anyone at the front could ever comply.... shuffle up the aisle on their bums?

I guess they are trying to say that Red Arrow is a limited stop service which doesn't serve the other stops it passes. If they were to say "only stops at these stops" then some wag would probably complain when it stopped next to one when caught up in the semi-permanent Derby Road traffic jam.

NCT used to have a hideously ungrammatical notice along the linea of "Any item stored in this luggage rack is done so at your own risk". And in the 70s GMPTE bus top decks had a notice "Please do not smoke" which was usually altered to "Fleas".

Also remember one of my Trips to Mc Donalds, was in the Drive Thru and was asked if we wanted to eat in or take out...

About 20 years ago, when I was living in Higher Heysham, I complained about a bus that don't turn-up.

The reply from Stagecoach stated the only reason that buses don't turn up is because people keep complaining about them not turning up.

There was a notice on LRT buses stating:

"DO NOT GET OFF BETWEEN STOPS-
DOING SO IS BOTH DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL"

I suspect a generation of Edinburgh teenagers on the back seat were very upset!

I suppose it dates back to the introduction of One Man Operation in the late sixties early seventies. Due to union agreements etc a front entrance bus did not necessarily mean you paid the driver for some years.

in the early days of deregulation, there were many complaints about a particular service in the west midlands. The consensus was that the timetable was unrealistic. The owner of the bus company had other ideas and was quoted in the local paper as saying there was nothing wrong with his timetable... the problem was that the buses had to keep on stopping to pick up passengers!

Then of course there was the case of a young child who won a goldfish at the fun fare in Leicester... tried to board the bus to go home and was told by the driver that the companies conditions of carriage stated "no wet fish allowed"
