On Thursday morning (August 26) I arrived at Chester on a Merseyrail service to see Locomotive Services owned class 47 locomotives D1935 (47805) "ROGER HOSKING MA 1925 to 2013" and 47614 on the middle road.

I barely had time to get the camera out before they headed off the Crewe direction.

Anyone know why they were in Chester - were they working a special?

Probably just a training or test run for one/both locos. They've been known to do that to test the multi working out too on occasions. One of the useful sides of LSL (unlike other companies in the past) has been that they don't need to skimp on moves like this. Recall instances in the past where Riviera would stick "barely used" locos out after very long periods being confined to yard duties then wonder why they were riddled with faults and didn't like being sent to far flungs places. Multi working faults, failures, small fires, you name it! Didn't always help when an erratic driver boarded and disintegrated the brake blocks or overloaded the generator.
