D stock - like or dislike?

Personally I like the D Stock. It's a good tube stock train. Can it last a few more years though?

It can have around 30 years life left in it if the work is done.

Only just over half replaced now, still a few months left.
Not sure how they will resolve the issue of 15 roads in Ealing Common depot not being acceptable for S Stock.
Unexpectedly a new World orking Timetable will now be introduced in May.

My (reliable) source suggests it's now going to be in the latter part of the year, although it will certainly be before the end of the year, as confirmed recently following rumours that the last trains would be withdrawn at the end of last week(!). https://twitter.com/SteveWhite2tfl/status/693066912960503808

They have AC motors and the grab poles don't match the line colour, and they are used on every SS line, which makes it really boring.

That hardly answers the question of "not being proper surface stock", though.

AC motors are more reliable than DC motors. The C69/77 stock didn't have green or pink grab poles. They were also used on every (yes, I mean every) SS line at some point in their lifespan.

The S stock are just as much a "proper" sub surface train as any stock that has come before. I suppose you'd say, by the above logic, that the original steam trains weren't "proper" sub surface stock?!

Everyone is welcome to their opinions - and you're more than welcome to dislike the S stock - but let's not pretend that they're not "proper".

They may be boring, but they are very well suited to their role. I really find it very hard to fault them except minor niggles.

I don't dislike the S stock - they're very good trains, but they don't quite have the same feeling as the D stocks

The S stock doesn't seem as well built, some of the earlier trains look quite worn on the inside, and some have very noisy doors
