As I'm sure many people here know, the RENFE web site isn't as useful as it could be as a journey planner, with entirely separate sections for "Cercanias" (suburban) services and longer distance ones, and a certain lack of interest in offering connections.

But curiously RENFE also have a web site https://www.docomobility.com/es (and app), which has a rail travel planner that can show both Cercanias and non-Cercanias services on a route, and even a trip with a connection between both types of service.

Furthermore it has another planner which also includes other modes of transport including long distance coaches.

It seems to be a significant step forwards, but its existence is somewhat well hidden on the main RENFE web site.

Gracias/thanks for this hint. But I somewhat suspect-and that may also explain the hidden position-that it is one of so many independent travelplanners and hence comes out better as RENFE itself-not that hard to improve that anyway. Also because RENFE itself will never ever even mention the extensive and competetive coach (long distance bus-autocarro) network that exists in Espana since many years. Does RENFE now link/mention perhaps also other such sites?

No, I haven't just come across an independent travel planner that RENFE links to and somehow got confused about its nature.

Look more carefully - the logo is "Dōcō by Renfe"; it's just that the "by Renfe" bit in very small writing.

And on the "about" page: https://www.docomobility.com/en/about_dōcō
they say (my bold):
dōcō: the app where you can find (almost) all the transport you are looking for, and with all the security and confidence that the Renfe group offers you! What are you waiting for to try it?

It seems somewhat surprising that something with Renfe branding on would provide information on long distance coaches, but it does.

I wonder whether they took inspiration from the SNCF Connect planner?

On SNCF Connect, you can do address to address planning with most local bus and metro networks, most interurban buses, trains, and even long-distance FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus they retail
