Who is interested in cycling / walking disused lines?

Which lines have you done? of those, which were your favourites?

Are there any you'd particularly like to do?

My favourite is probably the High Peak / Tissington trail (they meet at Parsley Hay), and one I would like to do is the Monsall Trail (Buxton - Matlock) although I've done what can be done, I'd like to do it again when the tunnels re-open (which is supposed to be happening this year).

It's something I'd like to have the time to do if I'm honest, if you have any to recommend in the Wales/West area I'd happily listen!

I can't say that I've ever done it, if only because I have no bike, but the country's first such route - the Bristol & Bath - is a lovely ride. Apart from the not-so-nice congestion over the A4 bridge in the far west of Bath, that is! :)

Haven't walked many old routes, East Kilbride to Hunthill junction stands out, and the old Buchanan st tunnel and other various Glasgow lines. I've always fancied walking the old Caledonian Railway route from Crianlarich to Perth or Alternatively to Dunblane, I suspect it would be quite a hike all the same. :)

I'm thinking of building a personal rail vehicle to ride on partially in-tact disused lines, like the line from Bicester Town to just outside Bletchley

Watch out for the freight trains between Bicester and Claydon!

Hah, I wasn't going to ride it from bicester town, wherever it is completely disused, that's where I'll start.

The only one I have cycled is the mkt harborough to Northampton line. I have walked part of the Caernarfon to Bangor line and the first couple of miles from stratford upon avon towards long marston.

What's it like? I plan to do that some time.

The biggest obstacle to arranging it is that walk-on fares are totally infeasible for going to Market Harborough but back from Northampton (or vice-versa).

If anyone is interested in joining us on some cycle rides along disused lines, you are most welcome. Go to UserCP and then under Group Membership you can join there :)

It was a nice ride. Bit strange cycling through the tunnels tho. The path starts near the sainsburys car park, but I got on at the crossing at little bowden. I haven't done the last bit from boughton crossing into Northampton.
