Cycling to work as a train driver

Trying to puzzle out where this might be, I guess he does not cycle 103 miles the other way %)

Works in Holyhead, gets the train to Shrewsbury and cycles home. This is a small outing for him to be fair. He’s done much further many times.

Still seems a lot. How fast does a cyclist go . Even at 20mph , that would take 5 hour's .

Couldn’t tell ya pal, I’m fat, you won’t catch me doing it. I did 32k a few months ago and it took me 2 hours!! And that was flat next to a river.

One of my instructors exclusively cycles to and from work, and does an average of 10000 miles a year. He doesn't suffer from fatigue.

Certainly doable. I'd consider it if I lived close enough.

I am not a train driver but I cant see why cycling to work would be an issue beyond the obvious considerations of additional time in your day, setting off/returning at stupid o'clock, traveling in dodgy weather, secure storage for bike and equipment, road user behaviour and needing somewhere to change and clean up on arrival.

I would say if you are happy with those then go for it!

If you have a uniform/PPE for your train driver role. There should be changing/uniform storage facilities at your depot. It's a legal requirement iirc.
