Cutting short a journey.

Hello.
Myself and a friend are looking at the rail sale and wondering if the following is allowed.
We plan to travel by LNWR from Euston to Liverpool and return. If on the day my friends last 777 is not out to play then we could spend the day at Crewe instead.
BUT is a break of journey allowed - in this case not actually continuing later to the booked destination. These look to be advance purchase tickets and I am assuming LNWR aways stop at Crewe (I will check on booking !). Which makes me fear the tickets will not be "flexible".

I looked on line and the restrictions looked very simple (too simple).

Technically no as an advance ticket.

BUT internal industry guidance is that there should be no penalty for doing this. So you should have no problems really.

Others will probably come along saying it's completely not allowed but really, you'll experience no problems at all!

I might add that the fare Euston to Liverpool LS is £7 each way. Whereas the cut short journey would be £5.20 each way AT SALE PRICES. So no avoiding a more expensive itinerary but only if the sale prices are taken into account.

I am not sure if anyone would know if you didn’t quite make the connection.

Yes, this is correct.

West Midlands Trains (who operate trains branded LNR and WMR) do not operate through London to Liverpool services.

Of course, you can specify which station you wish to change at, using the forum's ticketing site.

Although starting/finishing short with an Advance ticket is not strictly in accordance with the rules for Advance tickets, the policy of the Rail industry is that no additional fare should be charged (unless there is clear evidence of intent to try and avoid a higher fare).

That is good. I suppose I should just print an itinerary showing the Crewe version was cheaper when I booked as it won't be by the time I travel.

I noticed in my split ticket search on TheTrainLine that the route via Stafford was lost if I specified via Crewe. That dumped me on Avanti fares.
