I have done a little project on all the Train operating companies.
Its a birthday of a friend of mine towards the end of this month, so I decided to email/write to all the tocs to see if they had any merchandise they could send or I could buy. I sent the emails on Dec 28th 2008.
The responses were reasonably good. Here they are as of today.

Virgin Trains- Nothing No response to email
Hull Trains-Email saying that they had nothing they could send.
Cross country- No Response
EMT- Email saying nothing available but sent link for NRM
FGW- A timetable
NEXEC-no response
NEXEA-No repsonse
SWT- A Full size poster, pens pencils
Transpennine Express- A t-shirt, pens pencils, one of those first class anti macassays
Chiltern- Yo Yo, Pen, Frisbie, coaster
London Midland-Chocolate and balloons
Wrexham and Shropshire- A Mug!
Grand Central- A cab ride!:lol:
south eastern a pen and wallet (but royal mail lost the pen!)
Southern- no Response
Arriva trains wales- no response
Northern-No response
Scotrail-No response

It doesn't seem like a joke, not sure, if someone is getting a cab ride for their birthday, excellent! Then again, look at BOSCH, he gets a one nearly every day!!!! :) :)

And you missed Mersey Rail but very surprised at Arriva Trains Wales not responding as whne i send an email to them i always get a reply.

I dont think for 1 minute we have offered a cab ride to anyone but if its true and its me......PHONE OFF AND NO CAMERAS !!!<D<D;)

I would be very suprised if this is true, I dont think any TOC would actually offer a cab ride to somebody off the back of an e-mail...then again stranger things have happened!

Yeah you can just imagine the customer services team at FGW:

"Somebodys sent an e-mail asking for us to send some merchandise. What should I do?"

"Erm...erm...just shove a timetable in an envolope or something!"

c2c is an established and generally well kept brand, they'd be stupid to throw it away and go through all the effort (and cost) of rebranding as 'National Express Thameside' or whatever.

My guess is that National Express applied the corporate brand to the East Coast franchise because GNER was in itself such a well thought of name. By using a household name, which National Express rightly is, they instantly brought forward their reputation in public transport. one was probably renamed National Express East Anglia because it makes sense to tie the two together, than and I don't think 'one' was a particularly well thought of brand at all.

If NX didn't lose the Midland Main Line and central area franchises I doubt they'd have dropped the Midland Mainline and Central brands, which as it goes I find far better than East Midlands Trains (two words ending in S just doesn't seem right to me) and London Midland (which would be OK if they only ran to London, which they don't). Whenever I need EMT's website I always use the midlandmainline.com domain; I never get EMT's own right!!

They applied the name because a survey asked people what brands they could think of. As the TOCs are localised, obviously not many came up. People like Microsoft, Google and British Airways came up - because they are everywhere these days or have been about for donkeys years.

Unfortunately, this brand awareness nonsense is rather akin to widespread brainwashing, all seems rather tribal, and to the average rail passenger it doesn't mean all that much. Most people just want a reliable train service, not expensive rebranding schemes every 5 minutes. While it may be fun for the business community, most of the time it is superficial and a waste of money - especially if the service is crap. Brands may be well known, but not always for the right reasons: Such of Microsoft for its monopolization of IT, and BA for losing bags and probably has a higher profile than it deserves, carrying the same number of passengers as a small TOC.

Perhaps it was a pre-recorded DVD of a cab ride, from one of their trains? ;)

Just thoght that your CAB ride may only be a Shunt round the Depot on the Depot Shunter, Sorry to be Blunt but it just came into my head.

A possibility I suppose, but GC don't actually own a shunter do they? Therefore, an HST cab ride could still be plausible.
