I own a Logitech MX5000 wireless keyboard and mouse combination.
For several months now the keyboard has intermittently been disconnecting itself, which manifests itself as missing letters or sometimes words. This is becasue the keyboard has a two-stage connection, one which is very basic functionality, whilst the other is enhanced (normal) functionality.
So having identified the problem, after being criticised, scoffed at, and lectured to on another Forum about spelling and grammer, I took the combination set back to PC World. The combination has a three year warranty but PC World will only honour one year of it.
Apparantly "It nothing to do with us, contact the manufacturer, mate" syndrome. Which I have now done.
And by the way PC World, you will be finding that I am using you for fewer things in the future.....................
Anyway, eventually I get through to the Tech Support people (lady, who is apparantly in France).
I explain the symptons and explain that I have uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded updates, removed updates, downloaded original drivers, unistalled original drivers, downloaded up to date drivers, etc, etc, etc.
But now we have a problem...she is obviously working to a script.
"You have a keyboard/mouse combi, yes ?" "Yes as I explained"
"And there is a fault with it, yes ?" "Yes, as I explained"
"And the fault is...."
This goes on for about 2/3 minutes whilst we establish that, Yes I have a keyboard/mouse combination, No its does not work, and Yes I have done the fault finding
WE then default to basic fault finding.
"I have done all this" I say.
"You have done this already,. yes ?"
"Yes, I have downloaded, unistalled, re-installed" and so on.
"OK, so now we must re-install the software"
"Grrr....I told you I already did it !"
"Ah, Yes, so you must now install the updates.."
"Grrr....I told you I already did it !"
"So, have you uninstalled the updates ?....."
"Grrr....Look I am an Engineer. .........I have done all the fault finding. I have used it with different computers, I have used it with Vista, I have returned to XP, I have uninstalled and reinstalled it on three different computers....Grrrrrr"
"OK so you have uninstalled the drivers, yes ?"
"Yes"
"Have you tried it on another computer........"
FOR GOD'S SAKE !
After about 30 minutes of this, eating up my limited mobile minutes, she goes away to consult, and after baout 5 minutes of music, she comes back
"I am authorised to offer you a replacement"
"Hurray"
"How much did you pay for the combi unit ?"
"£100"
"The replacement I am authorised to offer you is....Please look at our online site"
So online we go.
"The replacement is half the price of what I paid "
"We can only authorise this one"
"Why can't I have the £80 one, it is much better suited to my needs and closer to what I paid ?"
"I am sorry but I am only authorised to offer you this one. Or...alternatively.."
"Yes ?"
"We can replace the keyboard"
"What about the mouse ?"
"Oh I am only authorised to offer you the mouse if you have the combi"
"But this keyboard is even cheaper !"
"Sorry I am only authorised............."
So I take the combi, even though it is not what I need or indeed want.
She obtains my name and house address, and email, etc and then says......
"So the fault is...."and heads off into fault finding mode again.
"Yes" says I "But we have been through all this at some very considerable length"
"Yes, but I am omnly authorised to offer you a repalcement if there is a fault with the original, and now I must ask you these questions so that we can see if there is a fault"
By now I am beyond caring and during one of the interminable gaps between questions I realise she has disappeared into the ether. So I put the phone down some 40 odd minutes after I first started, with practically all my free airtime now gone.
AND I STILL DO NOT KNOW IF I WILL GET A REPLACEMENT !
Frankly I don't care, I will give it a few days and then go and buy a replacement.
Had I known Logitech was a French Company then I would not have gone within a million miles ! They are all appaling to both work for and do business with.
It is said that God put the French on this earth so we could always look at someone who is far worse than we could ever be. How true !
