Just boarded the 10:51 Virgin service from Edinburgh and the Train Manager has put a continuous scrolling announcement on the in-coach displays.

WE ARE VERY SORRY BUT NO SEAT RESERVATIONS ARE VALID ON THIS SERVICE TODAY AS THIS IS A 5 CAR VOYAGER SERVICE INSTEAD OF THE 9 CAR PENDALINO (sic) THAT WAS ORIGINALLY BOOKED. THE PENDALINO (sic) HAD A FAULT AND COULD NOT BE USED. ONCE AGAIN, WE ARE VERY SORRY.

We just departed from Edinburgh and he hasn't turned it off, I presume he typed it in manually and yes it is all caps!

Has anyone else seen the displays used like this?

Ah, well, I can see why Virgin are having trouble sourcing some working Pendalino's! Better use the spell-check next time!

Yes, I have seen these once or twice before. It appears that the on-board staff have a plethora of ways to make announcements on Pendolino and Super Voyager trains.

(Perhaps Virgin could use this feature to advertise products in the shop? Or the weekend upgrade? It's an idea. :))

Probably not so bad in STD but the proportion change in 1st class seats must be massive!

CrossCountry use it to advertise their website (as do many TOCs now on their displays.)

390055 (which according to another thread should do this turn) failed already? oh dear!
Think the FC seating woant have been an issue as this diagram only changed on Monday. STD however must have been hell as prior to the new pendo this was, usually, a dubble voyager and t,e 10:51 EDB BHM needs it!

I don't think voyagers have the much standard seating different than pendolinos, they don't have a particularly good seating capacity IMO.

Virgin 221s has 236 Standard Class seats when D is used as Standard accommodation. 390s have 294 Standard Class seats :)

A Pendolino has only five standard class carriages compared to the Voyagers four, however, seating wise the Pendolino has 294 standard seats while the Voyager has 227 according to wiki.

Not seen any humourous messages go past in a while now.

Think Virgin may have got wise to what the function was mainly being used for :)

Surprised they don't make coach K on Pendolinos say "this coach is out of service and not for public use"
