Curious empty stock working

While looking to see if any trains ran to/from London Victoria on the Southern side of the station today (during the strike), I found this oddity

Why run a train empty, from Platform 12 at Victoria, to Streatham Hill, only to send it back to Victoria to the exact platform from where it left ??

Presumably because another service has to use the platform at Victoria inbetween times.

I posted details of a similar path recently, where a train ran ECS from Leeds to Wakefield Kirkgate, waited for a while, then looped back to Leeds to reenter public service. Probably no spare platform capacity at Leeds for it to stay there an hour.

It was a training trip for a member of staff, was a 4 car 377.
