Might try to get in another go on a 37 before they send them off to..wherever (knacker's yard?). Had a go a couple of years ago but I was in company so didn't get to pay full attention...
Sounds like next weekend might be an idea, last two weekends will probably be chocker.

Had booked to go on one on Fri 19th before even reading about the reliability or replacements. Going to be getting the 1004 from Preston... If it turns up! Not sure what ill do if a 153/156 is waiting in the platform.

Does anyone have any idea what’ll happen to the 37s? Some of them have had masses of money spent on them.
Are they likely to be bought (some of them back) by the preserved sector or will DRS hang onto some/all of them?

Anyone with access to TRUST, has the 11:56am from Carlisle to Lancaster been reliably a 37?

As reliably as any 37 diagram. That loco and rake spend Friday night at Kingmoor being lovingly fettled and then work the 0515 CARBIF and 0845BIFCAR.

Well one might ask the question as to where they are getting the 68's from are they taking them from the flask trains? in which something would be needed to cover those, at least they go in pairs on those trains:lol:. There also seems to be suggestions floating about that the 68's will only be short term and the trains will go over to units earlier than originally planned.

Apparently a 156 on the 05:15 but 37402 expected to take over with the 11:56 (now 424)

That would be a shame if passengers have to revert to lower standard rolling stock earlier than envisaged.

If there is a better chance of actually getting there and getting there on time I think regular users might disagree, even assuming 68's improve reliability there is no reason to continue with expensive Loco Haulage if Northern can find spare units.

Obviously as rail enthusiast I will miss them, but If was a regular user I would ready to take an axe to them. Apparently Jpress Northern Rover tickets are back next week for travel from the 15th so opportunity for me to do a few more trips perhaps.

Again, confusing the problems of the traction with the rolling stock.....

How is that the case exactly some of the issues have been down to rolling stock particularly the dbso as well as the traction.

These trains were only provided due to the shortage of stock caused by the TPE 170 fiasco and I suspect at considerable expense to the tax payer. These trains are mandated to go 2019 anyway so if Northern can find units to replace them before then why shouldn't they? except you seem to think that the Cumbrian coast should have some kind of Devine right to a special Loco Hauled Service.

Top and tail Class 68 and 3 coaches just chugged through Workington on the Down.

On a proving run, presumably.

To Carnforth I believe, looks like things are moving quickly, mind at least the 37's wont break down today:lol: as they are not running due to the strike.

Will the journey times be improved given the Class 68's are a lot newer?

No, it's not about that and the 68s are a temporary solution anyway, but the chances of you arriving within 2hrs of the advertised time will go up exponentially.

May have missed this, but what is the medium term plan? Cascaded Sprinters I suppose, but that will mean waiting until the new rolling stock is in traffic one assumes. Are there robust plans?

The Plan has always been to replace these trains in 2019 with Sprinters whether they get replaced before then remains to be seen but there seems to be suggestions that this will be the case. It could well be that Northern in consultation with Dft have decided enough is enough and that they will find the required units even if its at the expense of some capacity increases on some other routes that are meant to happen this year.

Saw on Facebook the 37s are going to be withdrawn from the Cumbrian Coast Line on the 27th of this month, bit of a shame as I was hoping to get some haulage this year.

Latest rumour I have is as follows ...

End of this month:

One class 37 diagram to be replaced by TnT class 68s and 3 coaches. Remaining class 37 diagram to remain as is.

May 2018:

The other class 37 diagram to be replaced by a class 156 + a class 153. The class 68 diagram continues unchanged.

October 2018:

The class 68 diagram to be replaced, presumably in a similar way to the second class 37 diagram.

More as it reaches my ears.

To add to this, from May 2018 Northern propose running an hourly Barrow-Manchester Airport service, so I wouldn't be surprised if any loco hauled diagram is confined between Barrow - Carlisle from then onwards. Unless someone knows different?

The Barrow - Airport train is looking likely to be a 158 or 158s in use. Sorry to drag off topic.

Well that's interesting although if diagrams continue to alternate past May I'm not sure why you would bother with the 153, as 3 x MK2 with a with a brake is about the same capacity as a 156 and their will be a lot less enthusiasts on the 156, unless it runs with 4 carriages, people are suggesting there is an issue at Whitehaven with the platform and signal position which may require a reduction to 3 carriages but they ran with 4 carriages when the 37's initially ran T&T

Could the new Bi Mode version of the 319.s not be cleared as far as Barrow, as there's going to be as many of them available as Northern, can find suitable routes for whereas there's a definite shortage of 158.s

Training at Barrow on 158s is to start pretty soon apparently. I can say with almost 100% certainty no Bi-mode 319s are going to be ready for the May timetable change.
