No I wasn't up on charges, it's just a play on words, with the hymn, all will be revealed.
Quite an unexpected turn of events at work, I wont bore you all with the story but on wednesday I was informed I was actually been given a day off and work had arranged cover, so not exactly much time to arrange anything, I decided after I'd dropped the daughter off at school, there was a particular itch that I decided to scratch.
I made haste from the school to Heworth on the bus and Metro's, all very dud, 4082 and 4047, to Central Staion, I was trying to catch the 09.24 to Carlisle but had failed miserablly by the time I'd arrived into Gateshead:roll:
I was still on call for work but no calls as yet, phew!!!!!. With time on my side before the 10.22 departed, I went over to Greggs and stocked up for lunch and got a bacon sarnie and a coffee for breakfast.
No sooner had I paid for a return to Carlisle and a Cumbria Round Robin, work rang, my heart froze in an instant, however 2mins later it was sorted and I was through the barrier and a lot happier. A Chiltern liveried skip on thunderbird duty, set my heart racing, is it the required for sight 13 or 14? no it 67012:roll: Nothing required here, I made for platform 5, to see what chariot awaited, I was gutted to see 2 142's parked in the bay, I swore to myself if I'm honest, however also parked in the bay heading the 142's was my chariot, a 156, ahhhh and relax. 156448 Bram Stoker, Creator of Dracula was my chariot. The 10.22 uses the High Level Bridge through where Gateshead Shed used to be and onto the Tyne Valley, it's a guaranteed move if your after the track folks/
I get a table seat to myself and I'm thinking, why is this ringing bells for me, I honestly thought it's just the name, thats thrown me but whilst checking to see if I'd clicked any VTEC coaching stock numbers(i hadn't), I flicked to the 156's and suddenly realised, why 156448 was ringing bells fr me, it's my last HT 156 needed for haulage, wow Bonus.
The joy was short lived, cos a family going to the Lakes on a Caravan Holiday got on and sat at the opposite table and surrounding seats, it was like being on a mobile set of Shameless till Carlisle.:cry:
We arrived at Carlisle at 11.52, so I thought, quick ciggy, quick use of the ATM, over the bridge and jump on the 12.08 Barrow and get up to Parton for the 37 back, however, that plan blew up, my fault but had some slightly aged couple, hurried up with the cash point instead of checking the whole worlds credit deficit before they drew out their money, I MAY HAVE made it onto winner, double dog boxes 153331 and 153363, however I didn't but scored 67009 for sight and 67004's name.
So I made for the 12.52 to Lancaster via the Cumbrian coast for the short hop to MaryPort, where I would meet up with the 2C49, I had a feeling the Lancaster working would be a 142, I had NO cboice, it had to be done, I could hopefully be consoled a little if it was 1 of NH's machines. It wasn't, it was HUGE mega dud and HT's 142095!!!!
, I swore to myself think but thought, think of whats to come, I somwhow tried to convince myself, as we bounced merrily on our way:roll::roll:
After a short fester, todays 37, 37401 was a winner, she looked resplendent in the large logo livery and is a huge credit to those who painted her, she looked amazing and by god she sounded amazing as I stood by the open window, listening to 37401's syphon symphony back to Carlisle, I took 401 back to Corkicle and bailed for a ciggy, for the next installment on the 2C41 back to Carlisle, 15 mins later, winner 37409 came into view, I got a front window and got to listen to cacophony of noise through the tunnel, it was immense, leaving Workington, the driver sounded the horn before pulling the handle back, it was a hellish sound and Lord Hinton was re-christend (OH MY)Lord Hinton, 401 was good but the driver and 409 were hellfire!!!!! Unfortuately all too soon the trip was over, I'd thought of going back to meet up with 401 again but decided to have a whirl down to Lancaster instead, maximise the Rover, I watched 409 depart and made my way over the Bridge to see what I could get to Oxlenholme and Lancaster.
I was getting a coffee when dud 390132 arrived, so waved it away, good job too becuase winner for everything, sight and haulage 390130 appeared next, so chose to ride this to Lancaster, free table seat to myself in coach E near the door and opposite a very attractive young lady indeed. My phone went straight on charge, as I idled my mind at the scenery on the right of me and out the window between Penrith and Oxlenholme, on approach to Lancaster, I started gathering my stuff together, when the attractive lady asked me, Are you getting off here? had she read my mind
inside my head was screaming, not arf pet, I went, yeah, afraid so, oh great she said, can you help me off with my case please it weighs a ton
, women eh. How could I refuse
and she was right, it did weigh a bloody ton too.

I said my farewell's and made over the bridge and was rewarded with another sighting of 142095!!!!
parked in the bay, a couple of modals went through with a pair of 86's on each, before winner 390020 took me too Oxlenholme, where I bailed for the next train up to Carlisle, the TPE to Edinburgh.
Despite running 11 down, I still had ample time before the last train home, 350407/410 were taken for my maiden voyage on the 350/4's, jumping off 410 onto 407 at Penrith and into Carlisle in time to see 37401 arrive back from Barrow, quick word with the driver who said, 37401 wouldn't be out tomorrow, shes blew an exhaust, poor girl.
I watched a few things come and go after she departed towards Kingmoor, watchig the Bay where my train would be leaving from, hoping it wasnt a 142, I had no choice but to take it if it was:cry:, however dud 156451 was gratefully accepted on the 21.28 home, I tried to write up my notes on the way back but dozed off and was awoken by a gaggle of very merry ladies at Hexham
, then at Wylam, a group of lads going into Toon, asked if I wanted a can of Fosters, I thanked them for their kind offer but declined.
We arrived early into Central but 67012 had been replaced by 67020, my 4th skip sighting off the day, I barely ever see them, today I've been besieged.
I was knackered now but I'd had a great day away from everything, just what the Dr ordered, 37409's hellfire start at Workington will live long in the memory, hence the title. Still I managed 17 winners for sight and 8 for haulage, not bad for an impromptu trip.
