It does not. There are no trees involved at all, in fact, neither pine nor fir nor rubber. The misdirection seems to have worked too well.

I'm surprised that no one got this. The answer is one word made up of two others. In both the clues I gave "rubber" refers to one of them and therefore both pine and stretched refer to the other. A quick look at my interests in my profile might help as well...

No, not Woodbridge.
After 2 weeks and the bridge rubber clue, I think (with a little help from the internet) I think I might have got it at last:-
Types of Pine Trees........Red or Norway: L : 2, 5-6 (its needles look like thin, graceful rapiers with which two squirrels might play at foils); C : 2-2 1/4; 3 X 120. Me. to Minn. and south to Pa. Medium between white and yellow Pines in quality. Largely used for bridges, buildings, piles, masts, and spars.
So, then, the answer must be Redbridge although I don't understand the stretch reference.
(Now awaits reply ... "No, not Redbridge"...)

Look for another meaning of the word "pine". I did say that no trees were involved. And the word you find can also mean "stretched". Rubber bridge is good.

Nice try, but the clue for that would have been "Nelson's rig" or something similar. I may not succeed but I try to make sure that every word is significant (if misleading).
