While I'm no scholar of the Romanian tongue; believe that plural of "leu", is "lei". Thoughts go to Layton and Leyland, up north; and the "Leyton" places in east London -- but can see no Latin / garrison sort of tie-ups there -- ???
Leicester is correct. Lei(lots of leu) with cester- one of many derivatives of castrum used for a Roman garrison or fort. You were so close Calthrop! Edit- apparently Romanian is the closest remaining language to Latin in use today. Multumesc!Leicester
