The Soroba housing scheme - alongside the railway about three-quarters of mile from Oban station - used to have a stone-throwing gang back in the day and I experienced it as a passenger on more than one occasion. @Cheshire Scot may well have had to deal with it from time to time. I expect most of the one time stone throwing delinquents will now be grandparents though.

The 'changes' of 1974 only affected the county-level governmental administration, but did not change the boundaries of the so-called 'traditional' counties, which remain in existence for cultural and some bookkeeping purposes, plus in a slightly modified form for lord lieutenancies.

I've a notion that there is, somewhere, a station called Navigation Road. Here we have a navvie, a geisha, and a Rhode. Not sure about His Grace and his excavation.

Spot-on with the "constituent parts" -- indeed, Navigation Road station: just north of Altrincham. And it's close by the Bridgewater Canal -- commissioned by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater.
