With thought-processes to which I tend: I'd suggest Snelland (= Snail-land?) on the Barnetby -- Lincoln line; only it closed in 1965.
Yes, according to the "Rules of the Game" it has to be an open train station / underground station or tram stop in the UK. So Snelland wouldn't count. Escargots is a very devious clue which I think only someone with a very tortured mind is going to solve.

I know -- just find it hard to keep mind from wandering to closed stations / open ones in the non-UK parts of the British Isles :s .
