The alternative of course is to take the "o" out, which leaves Perth and reverts religion, but don't wish to steal that idea from @Caboose Class.

Thanks all. I reckon Perth was correct, perhaps we'll find out later. However, now for a slight change I am involving two stations here:

Could some kind person please explain the last one for me? (A couple of years ago, I set one here, the answer to which was Dunfermline Q.M. -- I thought up what I considered a highly ingenious anagram, which the first responder solved in no time flat.)

Solver's tip:- If you have all the station names listed in a spreadsheet (e.g. Excel) you can then sort names by length. Very useful if you are looking for say a 24 letter long anagram.

Good grief, I think I'd better give up this carry-on: demote myself to stuff like Spike Milligan's "Crossword for Idiots" -- one square -- clues, 1 across: first letter of alphabet; 1 down: Indefinite Article.

Sorry folks! Was out all day yesterday with friends (ex-colleagues Christmas reunion) and - by the time I got home late in the evening - I was too exhausted (and slightly tiddly) to switch the computer on and just went straight to bed. The answer to my (perhaps too obscure and convoluted) clues was:
Carstairs
Travellers' friend = St Christopher - abbreviated to "Chris", then lose a letter = CRIS
Changes religion (from one type of Christianity to another) = RASTA
Anagram of CRIS and RASTA = CARSTAIRS
I would have given you more clues starting from today but, obviously they would now be superfluous!
