Streatham Common?

Based on the following (part) workings out:

won't be going posh = not posh = Common
not well = ill
to do ill = harm = a part anagram of Streatham, leaving the letters STEAT, and at that point I have no idea where to go.

Port Sunlight?

POSH = port out, starboard home - the supposed reference to the richer passengers travelling between the UK and India being allocated the better cabins for both directions of travel, out of the sunlight, in this case only getting the outward cabin on the 'posh' side of the ship/boat.

Intervening letters: somehow signifying that the bod is hidden uNDer a HILL (maybe in back of mind here, Lord of the Rings plus cloak-and-dagger stuff: Frodo's alias for his perilous mission, of Mr. Underhill) <D ?

It isn't Sandhills

The name of the station is actually hidden within the clue itself.

One TOC is responsible for managing the station, but all trains which call there are operated by another TOC. (How on earth did that situation arise:rolleyes:)

It's not Queenborough. Think initials for the HM reference, although that's only a small part of the answer (the end), in this one-word, important English station name
