I'd love to know how you came up with Birmingham Snow Hill, unfortunately it's not the answer.
By 'eck, thee and me don't seem to have much luck with "partridge" stuff ! My "Brum S.H." suggestion was admittedly a bit mad. Among the world's many species of partridge: there's a "snow partridge", and a "hill partridge". In chemistry-type lore, there's a link between potassium, and alum. There's a district of Birmingham called Alum Rock -- altogether, clutching at straws, I don't dispute.
I started by thinking that potassium was K but I haven't got further than that.
