The words of the clue can all be followed by the same word...

Thanks for the hint: it's Three Bridges.

I know about contract bridge, but not the other two.

Whenever I thought about this clue I kept returning to Bruce Springsteen's "Darlington County" which begins:

"Driving in to Darlington county
Me and Wayne on the Fourth of July"

Yes, its Three Bridges.
(Contract Bridge, a card game; Wayne Bridge, a footballer; Darlington Bridge, a type of electric circuit which was somewhat less interesting than a Van Der Graaf Generator in my recollection of school physics lessons)
