No. It is an anagram but much simpler.

Hint: 'stir parts around' is not strictly necessary as an anagram indicator ('parts' indicating letters here) but was included in order to try to make a more or less sensible sentence.

I assure you that had it been necessary to discard or add any letters the clue would have said so.

I think it is a fair (if uninspired) clue. If you disagree after seeing the answer please send a PM and we can discuss it. I really do try to make cryptic clues that fit the criteria for soundness in most crosswords with the obvious exception of defining the answer since it is already known to be a station.

I genuinely do not see how you can get Dagenham from the clue.

I am quite surprised that no one has got it yet. It is a very common clue type and is indicated as such - I am very pleased with achieving that in just two words.

The original clue was "Raving mad (not Barking)".

Now Barking is a euphemism for "mad".

"Raving mad" is more serious than mad (or Barking) - perhaps two stops up from it.
Dagenham is a couple of stops up the line from Barking...

No, the original clue was just raving mad (it was emboldened - anything else in the post not in bold type was not part of the clue).

The mad part was an anagram indicator and rearranging the letters of raving gave Girvan.
