There are two stations called Hope, so is this a matter of choosing the right one. Derbyshire is less likely, so I'll go for Hope (Flintshire) on the grounds that the county sounds bit like flincher but it might depend on your accent.

Well, as Flintshire was obviously part of the answer, and the only Hopes I know are in Derbyshire and BC, I'd better leave it to you Seacook!
As I am in fact pretty Hope-less I was wildly thinking of the he in the clue being the outside letters of Hope, but not surprisingly I couldn't understand how the op in the middle was connected to the clue.

Knowing nothing of model gauges, I'm a bit stuck. I looked at a map of Welsh stations and the best I can offer is Bodorgan, sale of organs being a banned trade.

I had thought of that but never got further than Bardon Mill which does not fit the rest of the clue.
However, inspiration has finally struck and I am confident that the answer is Bargoed. There is, I have discovered, an EM gauge which has to be removed from embargoed.
A good clue. I would not have got it without the extra hints, though.

No, it is not Rolleston - that would fit only one word of the clue, but the other parts are significant. Your thinking is fine as far as it goes, but if you find the right answer you would be far more confident about it.
