Could anyone suggest the cheapest way to do the following next Saturday:

Out: Croydon - Oxted

Return: Sevenoaks - Croydon

Many thanks!

Norwood Junction - Tonbridge £9.20 Not Via London Off Peak Day Return

valid ECR - Oxted

http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/NWD/TON/301113/1200/dep?via=Oxted

Coming back http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/NWD/TON/301113/1200/dep?via=Beckenham_Junction

Sevenoaks - Beckenham Junction then take the tram.

Total £10.60. (The Croydon-Tonbridge ticket would take you b ack to Croydon, but via Crystal Palace bustitution nonsense, it's 40p more than Norwood Junction).

Probably a similar ticket is available that would let you travel back via Tonbridge & Redhill if you'd prefer that.

I believe that a Croydon Stations - Tonbridge Route Not Via London Off-Peak Day Return at £9.80 is valid for your journey.

Edenbridge Town - Edenbridge is a recognised walking interchange and the route via the Edenbridge stations (24.5 miles) is shorter than the shortest route entirely by rail (27.25 miles), which is via Sevenoaks, Orpington, Bromley South, Beckenham Junction, Crystal Palace and Norwood Junction. (Source: here)

So finish short on the outward at Oxted and start short on the return at Sevenoaks.

Edit: I see that soil was thinking along similar lines.

Thank you. I took bb21's advice and did the whole trip on a return to Tonbridge. Unfortunately it wouldn't operate the gates at Oxted, though they were opened remotely after I pressed the help button (and I know not operating the gates doesn't mean the ticket's not valid) - otherwise no problems.
