They certainly used to have some local work around Nottingham in their diagrams (to pad out what would otherwise be too short a day!) - Mansfield, I think - but I don't know how much that's changed since.

They certainly go to Mansfield W'hose (possibly Worksop) and Leicester I believe. The 1432 Nottingham to Leicester and return to Nottingham Ivanhoe working is a Norwich driver.

Norwich Senior Conductors work Norwich to Nottingham via Grantham and Melton (and Ely North Curve), Nottingham to Leicester, and Nottingham to Worksop via Hucknall and Sleights. Traction is 153, 156 and 158.

EMT Norwich drivers sign through to Nottingham via both routes. They tend to do the odd local Nottingham-Leicester working rather than Worksop which they used to (conductors still do this route) & also sign Crown Point depot where GA do light servicing/fuel/wash each evening.

I'm familiar with the route via Peterborough & Grantham - where does the other route go?

Interesting. So I'm assuming the add-ons are more of a rarity and a typical day is mostly:
NRW - NOT
NOT - NRW

Thanks should be extended to the decent chaps at EMT for playing ball with all this :)

Indeed :D

In exchange for coordinating this with GA, why doesn't EMT consider timetabling or advertising the morning/evening extensions to Yarmouth and Lowestoft as through services? Would enhance their offer for very little extra work, and they already have one morning NOT-NRW service starting back at Mansfield to serve as commuter service for Nottingham.

Would be nice if they where advertised as a through Lowestoft to Liverpool & Liverpool to Great Yarmouth service like they used to be. Most of the conductors at both EM & GA are very good & do advise through passengers to remain onboard.

.....very little extra work.....

If only that were true!

I guess the fact that both trains spend around 30 minutes at Norwich makes them unattractive to advertise as through trains.

However the point is that while it may appear easy to put in the timetable, undoing it (the evening working may only be for this year) is much more diffficult. The local paper would scream 'through services slashed' :(

Then there are amendments to Service Level Commitments, Track Access Agreements, DfT approval and a whole load of other documentation, for both EMT and GA. I'm afraid the paperwork of the privatised railway is not designed to cause "very little extra work".

it may seem crazy, but with the way the privatised railways works it is perhaps the most efficient way of doing it? The alternative would I guess be a long taxi ride at the end of a shift for the last crew of the night, and a long (and early) taxi ride for the crew for the first train in the morning- that, or the last Norwich-Cambridge and first Cambridge-Norwich couldn't run.

Cambridge is on the fringe of the GA diesel operation.

Or maybe GA hire three drivers and three guards that live in Cambridge

Looks like these trains are advertised as GA services, maybe GA find it cheaper to hire EMT to run these services than lease an extra train, or maybe as the EMT trains has light maintenance work carried out at Crown Point EMT run these services with no money changing hands, jury is out

Have noticed that the Ely to Brandon section on the Breckland line is closed for a week from 7th May to 12th and EMT are running the odd service instead of GA between Norwich and Brandon, makes me think by reading the revised timetable on GA website that EMT might appear elsewhere in Anglia that week other than that wait 4 hours at Norwich for the next trip back to Brandon

i mean GA has a real shortage of DMUs at the moment

Thornton Fields. Now the Olympic Park. Stock now goes round to Orient Way which was built as a replacement. Its next to Eurostar at Temple Mills. Can be viewed from Stratford to West Anglia trains.

Wasn't the old sidings to SF and SR still used sometime after closure
