Hi there. Recently this company ' Crown group' has been offering these mass recruitment training opportunities with a guaranteed job at the end of it. It's just I've never heard of an arrangement like this so I wanted to run by it here, to see if such a thing is legit or just another dodgy work scenario.

The sales pitch for the role did not have much details, so I'll repeat what they told us.
It's a Railway track manual labour role. That primarily has shifts at night when the trains stop working. The training will be one month long, and after that you get a change of helmet colour.
This is where it gets confusing for me, the job - if you finish the training - is a 0 hour contract, however it is not tied with the Crown Group. The ones who will be doing the training. You can accept shifts from other National Rail sub-contractors (The Crown Groups competitors).
So I'm not sure how this works? After training is it effectively you receive a pass from Network Rail, that allows you to offer your services to all sub contractors?
If that is the case, is this a good way to get into the Rail industry. My background is in Engineering and due to some issues in life, I've derailed my early careers prospects. Could this opportunity effectively put me on track to work my way up internally until I can reach the skilled roles? Or is that not how National Rail works, and this is a dead end?
The crown group guys don't get into much details, as they seem to be trying to round up a lot of new people for their expansion in the area.
Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any sort of insight into this stuff.
