I take it first will expanded in the area?

It depends. When Crosville contracted last year, the best stuff was taken on by First (service 5 - though this has since been halved from half hourly to hourly) and they enhanced their competitive 3 to replace the 103.

However, the 4 was taken on by Citistar and there is also Bakers Dolphin who have also operated services at various times.

Another one where the owner sunk more money into a fleet of preserved stuff than on properly maintaining the buses running the registered services?

It won’t be a joint venture for much longer!

Guess it depends how much of a firewall Jones-Pratt has constructed in his dealings

Seems a shame! Appeared to be a good company judging by their Buses magazine article a few years back, and seemed to have gained strong foundations from its joint venture. Thats my impression anyway, but I don't know a huge deal about the company.

Got ripped apart at a public enquiry last year. I think a thread discussed it at the time.

Crossville were up for Traffic Commisioners public enquiry again last month now (February). Someone claimed it had to be adjourned because the "owner" was abroad, but it was Facebook so I do not know if it was true (apart from the fact about they being called to the enquiry).

Sad news, they bring back nice memories. As a young boy about 60 years ago I would catch a Crosville bus to school from Meols to Hoylake, my mum would give me four (old) pence, the fare was one and a half pence each way which left me with one pence to spend in the tuck shop. It was amazing what you could get for a penny in those days. We moved away when I was 12.

That's a totally different Crosville - the original one. There's no connection between the two companies.

The new company (or it's owner) has/had one of the largest collections of preserved old Crosville vehicles however.

Elsewhere on Facebook it’s being commented that it was held in his absence.

Can we assume the Southern National licence is to continue under JJP Holdings?

From what I can see its just Crosville MS that is closing down due to diminishing passenger numbers and presumably revenue (The Somerset area has suffered with cuts with council reductions in subsidy plus concessionary pass revenue reductions). Good to see they have given the statuary requirements and not just pulled out at short notice. Southern National is a separate concern and with Hinkley Point contracts should not be affected. I assume the preserved vehicles are owned by another company and sub leased in to ensure their continued preservation.

The preserved vehicles were operated under Crosville. Talking to an industry friend from the Weston area, he understands the heritage vehicles and operations have been transferred to the Southern National company over the winter,

The Crosville side of the business has well passed its golden days. The company withdrew last year most of its commercial network as passengers continued to use the First bus services instead. It’s a shame, i think winning the Hinckley Contract hasn’t helped the Weston operation either

A lot of the services it withdrew last year were ones where it had already seen off First, the only exception to this being the route it had only just started competing on and, on past evidence, assumed First would just abandon as well. I suspect the cost of using new vehicles on this and the Hinckley contract soaking up all available PCV drivers were the reason for what happened at the time.
