Crossrail to Reading Announcement

A totally environmentally irresponsible development IMO (car mad councillors responsible, no doubt). Offices belong in town centres next to railway and bus stations, as is now being implemented at Bristol. I'll bet the only reason it's there is because the land was 'made' cheap (it was a power station once, wasn't it?). As it's flat, does anyone cycle to it?

Yes, it used to be Earley power station.
Googling for "Reading Power Station" I found one of that name in Israel/Palestine, named for the Marquess of Reading (Daniel Rufus Isaacs, once Viceroy of India).
Even odder, he used to live at Foxhill House in Earley, Reading where I found myself in student digs in the arctic winter of 1962/63!

Has anybody looked at the amount of space available for parking at TVP? Looking out of our office window there is a fair amount of empty parking space!

At least there is now a bus service from TVP to Winnersh Triangle (if it had been there all along I might be using it rather than driving as I do now!)

The car parek is nearly always full as well, there certainly are not many empty spaces.

The failure of the original Reading East station planning seems to have been the inability of the local council, Wokingham to get the permission through before the time limit on funding from the developer ran out.
The plans are still held at Wokingham, it shows a 4 platform station accessed from Northern side of the station. A small station car park was included (probably suitable for a few disabled spaces and staff parking only).
Perhaps at weekends the office car parks might have been envisaged to be available but I didn't spot any mention of that.

Perhaps if the 3rd Reading Thames River crossing comes to fruition then the temptation to build a Reading East station perhaps might rise once more. Certainly I'd personally like to see Reading East back on the plan.

I reckon it be something similar to the interior of the Met's S8s personally!

In all fairness I should have said that I think the seating will be a mixture of longitudinal and 2 + 2. I would expect the longitudinal seating to be in the middle carriages of the train for the central portion of the line.

So then, on a discussion about Thames Valley Park (which is where we were), what abbreviation would you use? The one that everybody who works there or lives nearby uses or make up another one? As I had not used a dodgy code for Winnersh Triangle, surely it was clear that I wasn't using station codes?

Which car park were you talking about? The one at Winnersh, Tiverton or Thames Valley Park?

Those of a pedantic nature ought to report NR for the use of 'BTM' for Bristol Temple Meads in their latest CP5 publications - if it's OK for them...
