Crossrail gets its roundel

Crossrail receives its new roundel on the 12th of March and it's a purple one this time! I received information from my uncle who is the head of electrification for the crossrail project and I enclose an image of the roundel which I found online.

Looks ok I think, what do you reckon?

Nice find. Pretty standard really, compared the the overground and LU ones. I wonder when this will star appearing on posters and the like?

Doesn't look right to me; the colours are too similar and there's too much red in the bar which gives it a washed out look. Whack up the colour saturation and it would fit in much better to my mind.

Then again, I'm sure it'll look perfectly natural once in general use for a while.

Where did you find that online? Looks a like a bit of a shop to me, I'd at least expect the wording to fill out a lot more of the crossbar and colouring doesn't quite look right.

I see the linked article reckons Crossrail will 'own the track' - but of course that's not the case at all, with NR retaining all their existing sections, and HAH (formerly BAA) their bit as well.

I like it (although I think someone in the reconnections link mentioned that 10% of the male population who experience green/red colour blindness see no distinction in the colours)!.

Also as mentioned elsewhere it also sets down a positive marker that this will be a concession operated in a similar manner to the Overground. I am partial, but I do think TFL are best placed to run integrated services and to ensure that certain standards are met (even though the government seem set on cutting their funding).

Provided their sight is OK apart from colour blindness there is sufficient tonal difference between the blue and purple to distinguish that the ring is different from the bar though.
(there are online tools to help designers assess how things appear to those with colour blindness)

Note that the second half of this logo is purple in the above picture This is almost certainly a reference to the new roundel (speaking of which, the Railway Gazette have an article on the matter), and looks kind of iffy to me. Mind you, the logo on the Crossrail website is still blue only...

The roundel itself isn't too bad, but the purple and blue are a bit too similar for my liking.

I can see it being so. I suppose having a single, united branding would make sense, and that original one doesn't look to have much in common with anything else in London (and if we look at the other thread about making transport understandable for tourists, it makes sense.)

I don't think it was ever implied or intended that that would be the logo once operations started - the company known as 'Crossrail' today is really only concerned with supervising the building of the new parts of the railway, another example of an entity set up just to build stuff was 'London and Continental Railways'.
