The reason why Crossrail terminates at Abbey Wood is that extending services beyond would require running over several conflicting junctions. Only a small number of Crossrail services would continue beyond so they wouldn't be the primary user of the tracks - the GWML reliefs and the Shenfield Metro tracks will be mostly Crossrail's and they'll have priority when things go wrong. If Crossrail were to be extended it would require a considerable amount of grade separation work and they would probably electrify at 25kV at the same time to avoid the need to refit the entire Crossrail fleet with cheap-but-soon-to-be-obsolete third rail shoes.
