Just applied for a crossing keeper. It gives u salary + shift premium. Anyone know what shift premium is? Thanks Rick.

If the box in question is open around the clock, you will be entitled to night shift premium (£10.62 or £11.72 per shift, depending on grade).

There may also be London/South East allowances.

I just love the fact that that job still exists there was a lovely one at Plumpton I think it's still there really nice guy who worked there and I think he lived in the cottage next to it. I think the shift premium is for the nights and Sundays but I could be wrong.

I did wonder if you meant Plumstead - makes more sense now

Plumpton has been converted to MCB-OD.

That's a shame he took real pride in that job always had nice flowers and keep the place really looking good and he loved a beer or two after work. Top bloke shame it's gone but that's the railway now why have a perfectly good human being when you can have a faceless machine.
