It looks like CrossCountry will be getting 7 Voyager Class 221 trains from Avanti when training on the Hitachi Fleet is completed. Although, this hasn't been officially announced as yet.
What is happening with the Class 222's at EMR? These would make an excellent choice for the Nottingham to Cardiff route as they have better acceleration than the 170's and door select for the shorter platforms for example at Lydney and Wilnecote.
The 170's could then be reconfigured into 4 car sets for the Birmingham to Stansted route.
