I’ve bought an advance ticket for a journey Rayleigh to Portsmouth Harbour. Super price @ £21.70 for both of us with a 2 together.

My query is regarding the leg from Liverpool St to Waterloo. All the journeys I had looked at showed the obvious change at Stratford for the Jubilee line.

This one better suited my needs in regard to timings, so I just purchased assuming the same route. When I now see the London transfer details it states Liverpool St and “Rapid Transit” to Waterloo.

What does the rapid transit tag refer to and would I still be able to go via Stratford and the Jubilee ?

As the forum's site will offer an itinerary travelling via Liverpool Street, then going back to Stratford and on to Waterloo and also one just transferring at Stratford I don't see why not.

Thanks, I’ll go via Stratford anyway, without going to Liv St first. I wondered if it was a preferred route somehow regarding the fare allocation for GA, to send me to Liv St, so it’s just a zone 1 tube journey ?

It got weirder after my purchase. My son’s joining us on the leg from Waterloo, so I used the GA app to search for his ticket on the same train. It doesn’t show the 15:30 Waterloo departure.

I searched again with Rayleigh as the starting point, the exact same journey I’d just purchased and it doesn’t show up there either now. Thought I was going bonkers.

Bought with no problem on the Avanti app. The strange world of buying train tickets !

As you have an Advance ticket, you should take the trains stated on the ticket and/or itinerary.

If you want to change at a particular station (or avoid changing at a particular station), you can specify this when booking, using the forum's site. You can even specify additional interchange time.

This isn't a Zonal ticket, so Zones don't come into it.

One should do that, but as there's no gateline between the National Rail and Jubilee Line platforms at Stratford, in practice the OP's plan will work out fine on this occasion. I agree it would be better to book the journey based on the preferred route next time.

I found a similar thread from a few years ago and the sage advice given. As also mentioned above by redreni, I’ll bear in mind the options available.

It's not officially allowed but in practice no-one is going to know or mind.

Next time consider using a retailer that allows you to specify changing at Stratford

More specifically, on a site that allows change at and avoid points either of these would work:

1) change at Stratford, avoid Liverpool Street.

or

2) change at Stratford, max changes 2.
