Cross-London off peak

EG : Yeovil-Bletchley...14/09/11.
Off peak return fare for this route is £38.60 with railcard which I am happy with.

The outward route is 08:29 YVJ-Clapham Junction-Bletchley via SWT and Southern.
The return route I've chosen is : 15:46 Bletchley-Euston-Underground to Waterloo-YVJ by LM/LU/SWT although I could've easily chosen a slightly earlier train :-
15:17 Bletchley-CLJ-YVJ.

My question is : could I use any route to cross London for this journey and could that principle be used for any other cross-London trip (EG Yeovil-Bedford) ?

Thanks in advance as I'm still finding my way around the fares/restrictions maze !

You could use any reasonable route on LUL, NR or DLR services to cross London.

Provided a ticket allows travel via London, it applies to most rail journeys (there are some issues surrounding advances fares but the same theory applies).

If you're asking what routes on the Tube you may use, then you may essentially use any "reasonable" route - e.g. for Euston-Waterloo, you could use Northern, Circle, Victoria+Bakerloo.

It's been often stated on this forum that tickets bearing the cross London marker will operate the gates at any station on the list.

Does this hold for stations such as Seven Sisters where LU/NR transfer doesn't involve passing a ticket gate (ie can you exit to the street)? Has anyone known LUL/DLR staff take any interest in the "appropriateness" of the route used, so long as ticket is correctly dated and has the cross London marker?

You don't have to operate barriers, but the ticket will do so if there are any (if it has the '+' symbol on). You can leave the system at any station between the interchange points, but you may not get back in again!

It's been often stated on this forum that tickets bearing the cross London marker will operate the gates at any station on the list.

Equally, it's usually then been explained that this is only because of the limited capability of the technology in use. There's a huge number of legal permutations that would have to be programmed and checked against, so they just check for date and cross London encoding.

Any ridiculously long detours must still be 'appropriate' if they happen to be checked by staff for some reason, but I agree it's highly unlikely.

No, you could not go out to East Croydon, but you could go to Waterloo and across to London Bridge or change at Wimbledon for the District line to Blackfriars.

I have looked at the fares from Yeovil Jn [YVJ] to Bletchley [BLY] in Avantix Traveller, with a 16-25 Railcard I can see a fare for £38.60, but that is an Off Peak Day Return (not Off Peak Return) route Clapham J Not Ldn. This £38.60 ticket will meet your needs if you are returning the same day (I assume you are) but if you travel via London a £9.55 excess fare applies (calculated as half the difference between the fare paid and the price of the appropriate +London ticket)

What day of the week is this?

Yep. Temple and Mansion House are allowed in the stead of Blackfriars Underground.
