Cross Country Train Managers

I know XC get a lot of stick but I've used them a lot recently and have to say bar one trip the train managers have been an absolute scream.
Not everyone will have same experiences but credit where credit is due, working as a guard/TM can't be easiest job in the world regardless of TOC

They're very variable, yes. They do certainly have some excellent ones, for example someone based at Leeds who offers advice regarding connections to passengers. The advice is excellent, he appears to have almost every connection memorised - impressive!

I once had an XC guard unlock the doors for me after they had been locked (a few seconds early) at Chesterfield! I was sure to thank her when she walked through the train.

I use XC lots and can recall only one time where the train manager was bad enough for me to remember, generally decent on the whole.

The staff on the ground are generally good; it's just a shame that their trains are IMHO so uncomfortable and unfit for purpose (doubly bad after all the hype from Branson about how nice they were going to be compered with "B.R.'s old trains") At least you could put a suitcase in the overhead rack on a Mk 2. And you had a proper view out of the window. And just don't get me going about the number of coaches.....

Needless to say, I avoid them whenever possible.
