Cross Country Retail Service Manager Application

Long time viewer of this forum but first time poster.

So in May I applied for a Retail Service Manager position, I made it through the first sift and was asked to do the usual Numerical and Literacy tests online. I passed these tests and made it past the initial shortlisting phase, at least according to the recruitment portal.

A month passed after that, and I contacted XC in regards to my application, they explained that the roles had been filled internally. I responded politely although I was disheartened to find this out this way. That being said, I was asked if I would like to retain my details on file for future positions, naturally I said yes please.

Unexpectedly yesterday I received an email asking if I would be available in the coming week for a short 15 minute telephone conversation. What i'm really asking you lovely lot is;
A- has this happened to anyone else
B- What should I expect in this, standard interview questions perhaps?

The telephone interview is pretty straightforward for RSM/FCH. Comprises of a brief chat and questions include along the lines of why do you think you're suitable, examples of a really good day at work and a really bad day and how you deal with them, making sure you're able to work shifts and are able to get to and from work etc.

It's for Newcastle.

I've tried on several occasions to get this far, and it seems for once the dice are rolling in my favour. So fingers crossed!

The phone call is very informal and friendly... just asking about your experience, how you understand the job etc.... if progressed beyond it, *then* you will face the structured interview questions.

Afternoon guys,

thank you again for your all your input there. Really helped me to do a bit of revision in the right areas and really just make sure I was as prepared as could be.

I believe the call went well, just a waiting game now. So fingers crossed!

So I just found out I've made it to the next stage. To say I'm over the moon is an understatement.

Now time to prep as much as I can. Thanks again. This forum really is a huge lifeline.

Well, I had the interview a week and a half ago. Just awaiting the results now. I know it takes a while to hear back with railway jobs, but my fingers are crossed. If I don't hear anything within a couple days I shall drop them a little email.
